Good morning open water swimming lovers. Welcome to Saturday 😁
As you know, we are going with “the plan B” swim today, which is a ~15km swim on the North side of the GKI from the Spit (our regular start point) to the Big Peninsula (last headland before the East side) and back. Please see the map for more information.
Registrations will be open just after 8am. Safety meeting 09:40 and the start time 10:10ish from The Spit.
All vessels exclusion zone> between the start line and the first marker, no vessels are allowed among the swimmers.
The turning point is at the “Secret Beach” reef, which is clearly marked by numerous white trengular markers. Don’t spend hours looking at the reef or you miss the afterparty & dinner. It is a pretty cool spot though, especially closer to the headland point. There will be a vessel with some water and Gatorade if anyone needs some extra…
The swim is mapped to follow the coast line. A few Yellow and Pink markers will be placed through the course. Depending on the swell and location they might be closer or farther from the coast. When you swim up to the Big P, keep them on your left (swim inside). When you turn around and swim back, keep them on your right (still swimming inside).
As swimmers starting to turn around, the course will become a two way traffic. Even though there are only ~50 swimmers in the water and by then everyone should be separated nicely, please make sure your support vessel is in alert of incoming traffic, especially motorised vessels.
Paddlers, if your swimmer, for whatever reason, decides that “that will do for today” please rase your paddle up and one of the support vessels will be there to assist. Since we are swimming close to the shore, there will be plenty of opportunities to exit, if needed.
Event channel is WHF 72 , all the motorised vessels should have a working radio, as per event conditions. Please do a radio check prior to the start.
Any questions you might have, please ask here or through the morning… Let’s have some fun and Iswimhappy time 🙂
Swimcerely,
KISA (Val&Co)
