Have you ever witnessed 100 open water swimmers and their support vessels complete an island circumnavigation? No? Well, you’re not alone! All the more reason you should be joining us this July on Great Keppel Island, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th for our 4th Annual Swim Around Keppel.
This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever, with a whole weekend of family activities scheduled.
We are proud to introduce our new Spectator Cruise for 2022, so you don’t even have to be a swimmer to participate! The cruise will be based on board the luxury and comfort of the Freedom Fast Cats ferry, with either a ‘cruise only’ option departing Great Keppel Island, or include your return ferry transfers if you’re just coming for the day.
Choose from two departure times, with both cruises circumnavigating GKI, tracking the swimmers’ progress, cheering them on and checking out the sites of stunning Keppel Bay. Coming into whale season, who knows who else might pop up around the cruise!
The spacious, fully air-conditioned Freedom Fast Cat ferry will depart for the morning cruise at 10:30am to 12:30pm or the afternoon cruise from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. Cruises include either morning tea or afternoon tea with soft drinks and alcoholic beverages available on board for purchase.
For those swimmers amongst us, but not confident in doing the full 20km, did you know there is also a 5km swim? Hop in solo for the Middle Island circumnavigation, a great way to find your water wings and work your way up to the Great Keppel Island circumnavigation. 1km and 500m swims are also available.
Looking to head over just for the day? We have something planned for you too! With a scavenger hunt for the kids (and big kids!), sandcastle building and water polo tournament on Saturday 23rd July, we encourage everyone to express their interest, get involved and show the region some love. It will truly be a weekend to remember!
Swimcerely,
Val, Joy & the whole team
